Architecture | Aesop Corte Madera
Of purling fog, rolling ridges, and soft light.
The town of Corte Madera is nestled at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, whose indomitable presence manifests not only in the physical landscape of undulating curves and ridges, but also in numerous microclimates. At dawn, sunlight pierces the fog to effect a pearly haze.
This environment informed the design for Aesop Corte Madera, created by our in-house Design Department. Situated within an open-air retail complex, the store responds to its bustling surrounds with achromatic calm, with a striking façade fashioned from ribbed concrete, recalling the mountain’s many faces.
Inside, the concave ceiling, covered in hand-applied clay, gives a suede-like impression. Brushed steel was selected for the simple wall shelving, and for the long, curving counter that winds around the demonstration sink, crafted from stacked steel rings.
